i have played gw and recently left for wow, i honestly think wow is better, but if you are tired of wow, then gw is a good choice. my advice is to pick up nightfall as it has the most features.
there are no costs to gw, and it is fun to play. the only reason i left is because i beat all three campaigns and just got bored. once gw2 comes out, i will be sure to get that, it will have the more mmo feel, and not just an rpg that you play online with other people. |

First of all, I have never played WoW. But from what I understand, there are some pretty major differences.
1) GW level cap is at 20. The game does not encourage level grinding, instead it concentrates more on skill-based playing. If you want to grind, you can do so to get titles. 2) Skills. You'll reach lvl 20 pretty fast in the game and after that you need to rely on your skills. You have slots for only 8 skills so a little strategy goes a long way to beat those hard bosses. 3) Gameplay is instanced. This means that the world map is not free-for-all. You can take player groups of about 4-8 people (depending on where you are in the game) and once you leave town/outpost with these people, it's going to be just your group against the environment until you reach another town/outpost. While outside a town/outpost you will not bump into any other players and you can't kick anyone out of your group. 4) If you want to try PvP, you can create a character especially for that. This means your PvP character will immediately be lvl 20 and have access to best armor and max damage weapons. You won't be able to play PvE with that character though. 5) From what I understand, GW has a more intensive storyline. Each chapter has a clear storyline that you can follow at your own pace and which brings you into new areas. Um... and I think you can maybe find a bit more about GW in this thread: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10102502 It helps people who are trying to decide which campaign to buy. |

I've played both and suffice to say WoW is now gathering dust on the shelf. On the other hand, I'm totally addicted to GW. To me, GW is more structured. When I played WoW I seemed to be doing nothing but run around killing things to do pointless quests, not aiming towards anything imparticular.
I also (personally) never spoke to anyone in WoW because they never answered when I did. Not only that but I ended up doing all the missions on my own. Granted, I didn't get to level 60 and to the instanced battles and WoW must have something going for it because it's so popular. Personal taste is what it boils down to really. |

WoW = cartoony MMO, non-instanced game zones (boss camping, etc.), $180/year to keep playing. only positive side is netherdrakes! me want netherdrakes!
GW = amazing graphics, no monthly fee, and waaaay more strategic than WoW. i mean, whenever i see my friend play WoW, i ask him where his skills are. he points to a bar of 100+ icons, jeez. GW is kinda like Magic: The Gathering, cuz u choose skills (cards) before enetering combat (battling). also, the PvP is pretty intense, other than AB and RA. hope this helped ~Polynikes |

I don't play WoW so I can't really talk about the differences but as far as GW goes I say - buy it; try it. No monthly fees and not expensive to buy in the first place. Even if you decided eventually that you prefer WoW you will have lost only a small amount of cash on GW. And I'm sure that 99% of the people on these forums will be confident you won't regret your purchase. The big investment game (in terms of money) is the one you already love [ie. WoW]. ^ ^

I played WoW from release until last November. I loved the game, but everything was/became a treadmill and I really didn't care for large scale raids. Choreographing 20-40 other players, while challenging, was just not fun for me. Raid bosses could be fairly easily defeated once you knew the routine, albeit often the routine was a strategy where you had the equivalent need to stand on one foot with a bowling ball balanced on your nose while reciting the Magna Carta backwards in falsetto. And, you are doing this with 20+ other people, meh.
The community in WoW was very open, there was a lot of interaction via Auction House transactions, trade professions, on the spot Pugging, etc. Think about it, you could "save" some ones life and make friends. Many of these things, Guild Wars doesn't offer due to the game design but will be addressed in GW2. Having said all that, I chose to play Guild Wars because it truly is an elegant game, I love the skill and seemingly endless skill combos. And, even though there is a little "treadmilling", it's not an endlessly frustrating one that eats up huge amounts of time. |

Use Vent or TS...
It will make PvE, not just PvP a lot more pleasant lol. |
